Origin and history

This house, located at 85 rue Mirebeau in Bourges (Dear), was built after the great fire of 1487 which ravaged part of the city. Its construction marks the urban reconstruction of the late 15th century, a pivotal period between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The building, of transitional style, illustrates the architectural techniques of the period, combining medieval traditions and renaissant innovations.

In the 16th century, the house belonged, together with its neighbour of 87 rue Mirebeau (notice Mérimée PA00096722), to a family of master glassmakers. This detail highlights the importance of glass crafts in Bourges, a city that was economically and artistically dynamic. The property was protected as early as 1928 by an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments, covering all the parcels (cadastre HV 607).

The location, although documented (exact address and Insee code 18033), suffers from poor geographical accuracy (note 5/10 according to Monumentum). Available sources, including the Merimée database and Monumentum data, confirm its status as a witness to the bourgeois civil heritage of the first modernity. No information is provided on its current access (visit, rental, etc.).
