Façade (Case IN 132): entry by order of 17 April 1931

Origin and history

The house at 11 rue Pelvoysin in Bourges is a typical example of medieval civil architecture in wooden strips. Built at the hinge of the 15th and 16th centuries, it illustrates the transition between the late Gothic style and the early Renaissance. Its façade, protected by a decree of inscription in 1931, is distinguished by its gable in visible structure, characteristic of bourgeois houses of this time.

Bourges, then capital of the Duchy of Berry, experienced economic and cultural growth at that time. Wooden houses, often for mixed use (housing and commerce), border the narrow streets of the city centre. This type of construction reflects both the local craftsmanship and the urban social organization, where the facades worked attest to the social status of their owners.

The building, located in the Merimée base under INSEE 18033, has an approximate location (estimated at 5/10). Although its current use (visit, accommodation) is not specified in the sources, its listing as Historic Monuments highlights its heritage interest. The data available is mainly from the Monumentum platform and the internal archives.
