Façade and Roof (HV 238): inscription by decree of 17 April 1931

Origin and history

The house in Bourges, in the Cher department, is a civil building dating from the transition between the 15th and 16th centuries. It was built after the 1487 fire, which profoundly marked the city's urban landscape. This monument illustrates the residential architecture of the nascent Renaissance in an area still marked by late Gothic.

Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 17 April 1931, this house is distinguished by its facade and roof, protected for their heritage value. Its location, between rue de la Poëlerie and rue Mirebeau, reflects the medieval organisation of Bourges, where the houses concentrated around commercial and artisanal axes. The accuracy of its location remains moderate, with an address confirmed at 1 rue de la Poëlerie and 17 rue Mirebeau.

At that time Bourges was a dynamic city, capital of the Duchy of Berry, where economic and cultural activities were flourishing. Houses like this often served as housing for merchants or artisans, playing a central role in everyday life. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the urban and architectural evolution of the region Centre-Val de Loire.
