Façade and Roof (Box AY 137): inscription by decree of 20 November 1931
Origin and history
The house dated 1640 is a civil building located in Malestroit, Morbihan, Brittany. Built during the second quarter of the seventeenth century, it illustrates the domestic architecture of this period, marked by stone facades and slate roofs, characteristic of Breton villages. Its inscription in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 20 November 1931 specifically concerns its facade and roof, highlighting their heritage value.
In Malestroit, as in many small Breton towns of the 17th century, bourgeois or artisanal houses reflected the relative prosperity of the region, often linked to local trade, agriculture or handicrafts. These buildings served both as housing and as workspace for families, while participating in the urban structure of the city centres. Their preservation today offers a tangible testimony to the daily life and architectural evolution of Brittany under the Ancien Régime.
