Ferme-Grenier (Case E4 543): registration by order of 11 February 1998
Origin and history
The fortified farm-house of Coudouneu, located in Lançon-Provence, is an emblematic monument of the Iron Age. This site, classified as Historic Monument, is distinguished by its atypical architecture for this period, combining agricultural and defensive functions. Its registration in 1998 reflects its heritage importance, although the precise details of its construction and use remain partially documented.
The Iron Age in the Provençal region was marked by a social organization focused on agriculture and the storage of crops. Fortified farm houses, such as the one in Coudouneu, played a key role in preserving food and protecting local communities. These structures reflect the security and autonomy needs of the people of the time, in a context of increased trade and conflict.
The monument is now owned by the municipality of Lançon-Provence. Although its state of conservation and conditions of visit are not detailed in the available sources, its listing as Historic Monuments guarantees its preservation. The location, assessed as "a priori satisfactory", allows to consider further studies to refine the knowledge of this exceptional site.
