Origin and history
The log house, located at 54 rue de la République in Beaujeu (Department of the Rhône), is an emblematic monument of the 2nd quarter of the 16th century. It illustrates Renaissance civil architecture, with its characteristic facades and roof, protected since 1978 as historical monuments. This building, renovated in 1793, occupies a central square in the village, close to the Saint-Nicolas church, the town hall and the theatre.
In 2020, the house hosts two public functions: the Beaujeu Tourist Office and a section of the Beaujolais terroir house, highlighting its anchor in the development of local heritage. Its location on the main square makes it a point of convergence for visitors and residents, while at the same time testifying to the urban evolution of the municipality.
The protected elements, i.e. the facades and roof, reflect the Renaissance style and were officially inscribed by order of 20 March 1978. The property belongs to the commune of Beaujeu, which guarantees its preservation and accessibility. Although sources mention an approximate location (estimated at 6/10), its exact address is confirmed by the Merimée and Monumentum bases.
