Origin and history
Eauze's 15th century house is a typical example of medieval architecture in wooden strips. Its first floor rests on a carved sandstone, supported by consoles and wooden pillars forming arcades. These decorative elements, combined with the wooden structure, illustrate the know-how of the artisans of the time in the region.
This house played a notable historical role in welcoming King Henry IV during a long illness. Queen Marguerite joined him on the spot, and in memory of this stay, daisies were engraved on the wooden pillars. These details add a symbolic and memorial dimension to the monument, testifying to its importance in local history.
Classified as a Historic Monument, the façade of the house was inscribed by decree of 15 January 1929. This status protects its unique architectural elements, including wood engravings and structure, which are a rare and precious heritage for the city of Eauze and the Occitanie region.
