Origin and history

The House of the sixteenth century Guingamp is an emblematic building whose wooden structure, analysed by dendrochronology in 2011, reveals a construction between 1488 and 1489. This date partially contradicts its current name, linked to its dominant architectural style, although elements of the sixteenth century are visible. The house thus illustrates the late medieval construction techniques in Brittany, mixing tradition and innovations of the nascent Renaissance.

Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 5 February 1923, the protection specifically concerns its facades and roof, highlighting their heritage value. The official address, 31 Place du Centre (formerly 33 rue Edouard Ollivro), places the building in the heart of Guingamp, in the Côtes d'Armor. Its state of conservation and location, noted 6/10 precisely, make it a rare witness of Breton urban habitat at the hinge of the Middle Ages and modern times.

Available sources, including Monumentum and internal data, mention a thematic survey conducted by Valentine Guillevic in 2023, confirming the scientific importance of the site. No information is provided on its current use (visit, rental, or guest rooms), but its ranking guarantees its preservation. The house thus embodies a heritage both material (wood, stone) and immaterial (old know-how), anchored in the history of central Brittany.
