Origin and history

The house of Jeanne d'Arc, located in Moulins in the Allier department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is an emblematic building of the 1st quarter of the 15th century. It was rebuilt after the devastating fires of 1408-1409, which marked the city. The dendrochronological analysis of the structural parts confirms a precise dating to 1411, thus revealing the authenticity of its medieval structure.

The architecture of the house combines solid masonry and a corbelled floor with wooden gable, characteristic of bourgeois constructions of the era. The galleries open on an inner courtyard, as well as the decorative elements combining medieval and classical styles, testify to its historical importance. According to a local tradition, Jeanne d'Arc had stayed in this residence, although this claim remains subject to interpretation.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 11 October 2004, the house is now protected for its heritage value. Its official address, 2 rue de la Flèche, and its registration for the Mérimée inventory underline its role in the urban history of Moulins. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), reflecting uncertainties related to available historical sources.
