Origin and history
The house 8 Place de la Clautre in Périgueux is a 18th-century Louis XV building. It is distinguished by its mansard roof, rounded corners and wrought iron balconies, whose consoles are dug and chamfered. The finely carved skylights add to its architectural character. This building illustrates the elegance of the urban buildings of the period, combining functionality and careful decoration.
Classified as a Historic Monument, this house saw its facades and roofs protected by decree of 4 October 1946. The cadastral code (D 946, 947) and its precise address, at the corner of the Rue du Séminaire, make it a heritage landmark of the city. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), allows to identify its anchor in the historic center of Périgueux, in the Dordogne.
Architectural elements, such as balconies and skylights, reflect the artisanal know-how of the eighteenth century, particularly in the work of wrought iron and carved stone. Although the sources do not mention its original use, its style and location suggest a bourgeois residential destination, typical of the city centers of the time. No information is available on any historic owners or occupants.
The available data (Monumentum, Merimée database) highlight its heritage interest, but do not specify whether the monument is open to visit or reassigned to contemporary use.
