Origin and history
This house, located in Chartres, dated the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, is distinguished by its four side-by-side windows. They have notable architectural variations: a capucin-shaped dormer (two or three empanons), a diamond-shaped dormer, and a guard. These elements suggest a stylistic consistency specific to Chartres and even the intervention of the same carpenter. The house, once on the periphery, retains wood-paned split walls and a lead insulation system, typical of the buildings of the time.
A stone engraved from 1835 on a cut-pan wall indicates either the construction or a major modification of the building at that time. The skylights, facades and roofs were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on 2 July 1997, highlighting their heritage value. The building thus illustrates the techniques of carpentry and insulation in the 19th century in the region.
The initial location in the Chartres suburbs and the materials used (wood, lead) reflect local constructive practices. The Napoleonic cadastre is mentioned as a possible chronological landmark, but without any certainty about its direct connection to the house. The ensemble offers a testimony of the artisanal know-how and urbanism of the period.
