Origin and history
The Eyrolles House is an iconic residence located in Cachan, Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France. Built between 1905 and 1910 by architect Eugène Robinot, it embodies the Art Nouveau style with its decorated woodwork. This monument is part of the campus of the Special School of Public Works, Building and Industry (ESTP), founded by Léon Eyrolles, who was also mayor of Cachan from 1929 to 1944.
The house was initially used as a dwelling for the Director of ESTP. It was listed as historical monuments in 1997 for its remarkable architectural elements, including its interior decorations. Its location at 28, Avenue du Président-Wilson, in the heart of the campus, highlights its close link with Cachan's educational and urban history.
Léon Eyrolles, the house's sponsor, was a major local figure: entrepreneur, founder of the ESTP, and edile. His legacy continues through this monument, but also through the publishing house that bears his name. Several components of the house, reflecting the period craftsmanship, were specifically protected during the 1997 registration.
