Facade and roof on the Place de la République: inscription by order of 12 October 1946

Origin and history

The house located in Beaucaire, in the Gard, is a historic monument remarkable for its medieval architecture. It is characterized by a set of high facades flanked by two slightly protruding stair turrets, each with low doors. A large vaulted passage, surmounted by a stone balcony decorated with elegant ironwork, gives access to the old market square, today Place de la République. This passage ends under arcades, emphasizing the commercial and social importance of this place throughout the centuries.

The architectural details of this house include door windows, antique doors, stone window supports, and decorative headbands. A beam carved in volute, located at the corner of the streets of the Bijoutiers and Diderot, advances in strong protruding, adding a distinctive artistic touch. The heavy wooden shutters and ironwork elements bear witness to a neat craftsmanship. The façade and roof on the Place de la République were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 12 October 1946, thus recognizing their heritage value.

The precise address of this monument, according to the Mérimée base, is 13 rue des Bijoutiers in Beaucaire, in the department of Gard.
