Fireplace; First floor pillar (Box AB 122): inscription by order of 26 October 1995
Origin and history
The Gothic House, located in Figeac in the Lot (Occitanie), is a monument dating from the 13th century or early 14th century. Its original architecture, including the wooden section of the floor, has partially disappeared in favor of a modern facade. Despite these transformations, certain elements such as the chimney and the pillar of the first floor have been preserved, bearing witness to its medieval past.
Listed among the Historical Monuments, this house was registered by decree on 26 October 1995, specifically protecting these remains. Its exact address, 5 rue Lauriere, is referenced in the Mérimée base, although GPS coordinates suggest a nearby location at 21 Rue Bonhore. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), perhaps reflecting the uncertainties associated with its architectural evolution.
Figeac, a medieval city of Quercy, was at that time a dynamic commercial and artisanal crossroads. Wood-paned houses, like this one, served as both a dwelling, a workshop and a place of exchange for local merchants and artisans. Their structure reflected current construction techniques, adapted to the resources available and to the needs of a rapidly expanding population.
