Origin and history
The log house on 4 Rue Paul-Louis-Courier in Luynes, classified as a Historic Monument in 1978, illustrates the importance of the medieval village that developed around the local feudal castle. Its typical 16th century architecture, with a corbelled gable on street, reflects the construction techniques in vogue at that time. The facade rests on four carved cornel posts, representing major religious figures: St James, the Virgin, a Pietà and St Christophus, testifying to the popular devotion and influence of the Church in everyday life.
The sculptures adorning the horn posts support a moulded lintel, highlighting the artisanal know-how of the time. This type of house, characteristic of the prosperous villages of the Loire Valley, served both as a dwelling and as a place of commerce or craft. The location of Luynes, close to Tours, made it a strategic crossroads, where economic and cultural exchanges were intense. The protection of this monument in 1978 allowed to preserve a rare architectural heritage, representative of medieval and reborn urbanization in Touraine.
The house, now owned by the municipality, embodies the link between the feudal past of Luynes and its urban evolution. Its state of conservation and its sculptural details make it a valuable testimony to the constructive and artistic traditions of the Centre-Val de Loire region in the 16th century. Although its current use (visit, rental, etc.) is not specified, its classification guarantees its sustainability as a key element of local heritage.
