Origin and history
The house Lardaillé, located in Castres, Occitanie, is a building whose history extends from the 16th to the 19th century. Originally destroyed by a fire shortly before the French Revolution, it now retains only its octagonal tower, erected in 1550. The other parts of the building were later rebuilt, incorporating architectural and decorative elements from both periods.
The particularity of this house lies in its music salon, designed with a dome ceiling to optimize acoustics. This ceiling is decorated with paintings by Italian artists in the 19th century, showing the artistic influence of this period. The house has been partially classified as a Historical Monument since 1972, with a protection covering the facades, the roof of the tower, and the living room with its decor.
The location of the house, at 2 boulevard Maréchal-Lyautey in Castres, is documented in the Mérimée base. Although the information on its geographical accuracy is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory", its exact address and Insee code (81065) clearly place it in the Tarn department in the Occitan region. The protected elements reflect both its Renaissance heritage and the additions of the 19th century, illustrating a superimposition of styles and uses over the centuries.
