Facades and roofs (cad. AB 77): classification by decree of 3 September 1934

Origin and history

Maison Piquerel is an outbuilding of the Hôtel de la Confiance, located in the emblematic enclosure of Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy. This monument, although little documented in the available sources, is recognized as a Historical Monument, with specific protection covering its facades and roofs. These architectural elements were classified by ministerial decree on 29 November 1948, attesting to their heritage value in a site already charged with medieval and religious history.

Mont-Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been a major place of tourism and French history since the Middle Ages. Civilian constructions such as Maison Piquerel, although less well known than the abbey, bear witness to the daily life and economic activities around the monastic site. Their preservation contributes to the understanding of the social and urban organization of this mythical rock, where pilgrims, monks and local inhabitants mingled.

The vernacular architecture of these outbuildings, often modest, contrasts with the grandeur of the surrounding religious buildings.
