Origin and history

Castello San Colombono is a medieval monument located in the municipality of Rogliano, Corsica. Although available sources remain limited, its name and location suggest a defensive or residential role typical of the castles of this period in the Mediterranean. In medieval times, Corsica was marked by rivalries between local lords, genoese influences and a social organization centred around fortified villages.

Castles, such as Castello San Colombono, often served as refuges, symbols of power or strategic checkpoints for surrounding communities. Their presence also reflected political tensions and protection needs in the face of internal raids or conflicts.
