The vestiges in elevation of the castral motte known as the Truque de Maurélis, as well as the soil and basement of parcels Nos. 265 and 266, section H, in whole, as delimited in red on the plan annexed to the decree: inscription by decree of 7 March 2022

Origin and history

The castral motte known as Truque de Maurélis is a fortified site dating from the 4th quarter of the 9th century, located in the commune of Castelnau Montratier-Sainte Alauzie (Lot, Occitanie). This type of structure, characteristic of the early Middle Ages, was generally used as a point of defence and territorial control. The remains still visible today include partial elevations, protected by a registration order in 2022, covering plots 265 and 266 and their basement.

The location of the site, although documented (768 Chemin de Lataillade), remains approximate according to the available sources, with cartographic accuracy considered fair (note 5/10). The castral motte is part of a regional context marked by the emergence of local fortifications, reflecting the political and military dynamics of the Carolingian era. These buildings met security needs in the face of invasions or internal conflicts, while symbolizing the power of local lords.

Registration for Historic Monuments in March 2022 underscores the heritage importance of the site, although current sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not provide details of its precise use or potential occupants. No information is available regarding its accessibility to the public, its detailed state of conservation, or any recent archaeological excavations.
