Origin and history

The cemetery cross of Montlandon is a monumental Gothic cross erected in the 15th century. It is located in the cemetery of the delegated commune of Montlandon, now attached to Haute-Amance, in the department of Haute-Marne (Grand Est). Its exact location is close to the Nativity-of-Notre-Dame church, in the heart of the village.

The cross has a marked Gothic architectural style, with an octagonal base with two steps, an ornamented pedestal and a twisted barrel. It is surmounted by a vegetal capital and a "flowered" cross at the ends. His sculptures depict a Virgin with Child on one side and a Crucifixion on the other, typical of medieval Christian iconography.

Ranked a historical monument by decree of 26 September 1903, this cross was restored in 1892, as evidenced by the archives of the sub-prefecture. Its state of conservation and artistic details make it a remarkable example of the medieval funeral heritage of the region.

Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its protected status and precise location at 2 Rue de l'Eglise, 52600 Haute-Amance. The Insee code of the municipality (52242) and its attachment to the former Champagne-Ardenne region (now Grand Est) complete its administrative identification.
