Origin and history
The seigneurial house of Cezais, located in the eponymous commune of Vendée (Pays de la Loire), has its origins at the beginning of the 15th century. This mansion, originally built as a noble residence, was enlarged in the 16th and 18th centuries, reflecting the architectural and social evolutions of these epochs. Its spatial organization includes a main house body, outbuildings, as well as a terraced garden, lined with moat. These exterior arrangements, combined with a dovecote and a hemi-circular staircase, demonstrate an aesthetic and functional will characteristic of the seigneurial residences of the modern era.
Inside, the ground floor preserves medieval and reborn elements, such as 15th and 16th century ovens, wells and chimneys, while the floor houses four 18th century chimneys, remarkable by their neat bill. In the 19th century, the house was converted into the headquarters of a farm, marking a transition in its use, without significantly altering its original structure. The current protections, introduced by an order of 25 August 2010, cover the housing body, the dovecote, and the gardens and their masonry works, highlighting the heritage value of the ensemble.
The location of the monument, although documented (8 Rue du Logis, 85410 Cezais), suffers from a geographical accuracy considered fair (note 5/10), according to available data. This imprecise contrasts with the rich architectural and historical details preserved, which make it a representative example of the seigneurial houses of Vendée, between medieval heritage and adaptations of modern times.
