Origin and history

The caretaker's cottage is a small house located at the corner of Hubert-Colombiar Street and Marshal-Foch Street in Vichy. Built between 1897 and 1900 by Honoré Vianne in a neo-medieval style, it occupied a very small plot (12 m2) and served as a dwelling for the private gatekeeper. This was the first construction of the subdivision, and the last known work by Vianne, then 70 years old. The ground floor housed a shop, successively occupied by a coachman and a shoemaker.

In 1971, threatened with destruction because of its state of degradation, the chalet was finally saved by its inscription in the Historical Monuments in 1978. The town of Vichy, which had acquired it to destroy it, renounced it and sold it to an individual in 1997. A similar cottage project at the other end of the street was refused for lack of alignment.

The chalet is part of a set of villas designed by architect Percilly for Hubert Colombier, a stickman and owner of Vichy bank. The private lane, initially closed by a chain, was opened to traffic in the 1950s. The facades and roofs of the chalet have been protected since 1988.
