Origin and history

The Chapel Notre-Dame de la Cavalerie is a Romanesque building located in the commune of La Bastide-des-Jourdans, in the department of Vaucluse. Built in the 12th century, it bears witness to the medieval Provencal heritage, marked by a strong religious and military presence.

First under the supervision of the Temple, the chapel was then transferred to the Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. These changes of ownership reflect the evolution of religious and military orders in the Middle Ages, often linked to the protection of pilgrims and territories.

The chapel was listed as historic monuments on 21 February 1989, recognizing its heritage value. This classification preserves its Romanesque architecture and history, intimately linked to the religious orders that marked medieval Europe.
