The chapel of Christ, in its entirety, its cross and the plate floor of their placister (cf. A 269, 270): registration by order of 27 July 2015.

Origin and history

The chapel of Christ and the cross, located in Trégrom, Brittany, is a religious building erected mainly in the sixteenth century, with elements added in the eighteenth century. It stands at the top of a hill, surrounded by a placister bounded by a slope on which there is an ancient cross. Its square plan combines a rectangular flat bedside vessel and a seigneurial chapel to the north, all built in large granite apparatus. The interior houses a polychrome wooden stand, made in the 17th or early 18th century, composed of seven panels carved in the 16th century representing scenes of the Passion, reused by an ancient jube.

The building, which looks homogeneous and sober, reflects a typical architecture of the first half of the 16th century. Its ensemble, including the chapel, the cross and the floor of the placister, was inscribed as a Historical Monument by order of 27 July 2015. Today, the chapel belongs to the commune of Trégrom, in the Côtes-d.

The polychrome wooden stand is the most remarkable interior element of the chapel. The carved panels, dating from the 16th century, come from an ancient jube and illustrate scenes of the Passion of Christ. Their re-use in the gallery, in the 17th or 18th century, reflects a common practice of re-using artistic elements in the religious buildings of the period. The chapel, with its placister and cross, forms a coherent ensemble, characteristic of the Breton religious heritage.
