Origin and history
The Chapel of Charity of Saint Quentin, located at 38 rue des Patriotes, is a historic monument registered since 2005. Built in 1854 by the municipal architect Pinguet, it embodies the neo-Gothic style then in vogue. Its edification is part of a context of religious and architectural renewal, marked by the influence of Catholic charitable movements.
The building is distinguished by its stained glass windows, originally designed by the Bazin workshop in 1854, and completed in 1871. Their iconography celebrates Saint Vincent de Paul and the action of the Daughters of Charity, especially their role as ambulances during the 1870 war. These stained glass windows illustrate the social and spiritual commitment of these nuns in a time of conflict and humanitarian needs.
The chapel, owned by a private company, is an architectural and historical testimony of local devotion and the history of charitable congregations. Its inscription as a historical monument in 2005 underscores its heritage value, both for its style and for its connection to the social and religious history of Saint Quentin and Picardie (now Hauts-de-France).
