Chapel of the Congregation (Box AC 285): inscription by decree of 16 October 1930

Origin and history

The chapel of the Congregation is a 16th century religious building located in Place du Champ-de-Foire, in the heart of the village of Locminé, in the Morbihan department. Built on the site of an older building, it housed meetings of local corporations under the Old Regime, thus playing a central role in the economic and social life of the city. Its architecture reflects the Christian traditions of the time, while being part of the urban landscape of this small Breton city.

During the French Revolution, the chapel was transformed into a decadal temple, a place of worship dedicated to the new Republican calendar, illustrating the political and religious upheavals of that period. It then regained its original vocation before being classified as a historical monument by order of October 16, 1930, recognizing its heritage value. Today, it remains a testimony of the corporate practices of Ancien Régime and of the cultural adaptations related to national history.

The chapel, owned by the municipality of Locminé, is located at two referenced addresses: Place du Champ-de-Foire (source Mérimée) and 11 Rue Notre-Dame ( GPS coordinates). Its state of conservation and its openness to the public are not specified in the available sources, but its listing as historical monuments guarantees its protection. It is part of a wider set of Christian and Morbihan heritage, as evidenced by its links to the portals dedicated to religious architecture and historical monuments of the region.
