Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Michel du Meix-Saint-Michel, located in the commune of Rully (Saône-et-Loire), was built in 1863, a few years after the Château Saint-Michel on which it depends. This château, in Haussmannian style, was commissioned by Claude Coin, former trustee of the Paris exchange agents. The chapel is distinguished by its interior decoration made by stencil, a remarkable element that motivated its classification as historical monuments on 27 May 1991.

The castle and its chapel illustrate the Parisian architectural influence of the Second Empire in this Burgundy region, where urban elites invested in secondary residences. The chapel, although a communal property today, retains a strong link with this 19th century aristocratic heritage, marked by stylistic eclecticism and decorative fascist.

The 1991 protection specifically concerns the interior elements of the chapel, highlighting their artistic and historical value. The site, located at 11 Rue Saint-Laurent in Rully, remains a testament to local history and the evolution of architectural tastes during the reign of Napoleon III. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary use.
