Origin and history

The chapel-hermitage of Sainte-Reine is a religious building located in the municipality of Allondrelle-la-Malmaison. Its construction dates back to the 4th quarter of the 17th century, a period marked by a revival of local devotion and pious foundations in Lorraine. This type of monument, often isolated, served as a place of spiritual retreat or pilgrimage for the faithful of the region.

In the context of the Great East in the 17th century, chapels and hermitages played a central role in community life. They were religious and social landmarks, welcoming prayers, processions or stops for travellers. Their modest architecture often reflected the local resources and spiritual needs of rural populations, strongly attached to the cults of patron saints as Holy Queen.
