Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Coeur Chapel is a Catholic building located in Lucéram, in the Alpes-Maritimes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although its exact date of construction remains unknown, it is associated with the 14th century. Its originality lies in its murals, made at the end of the 15th century and attributed to the artist Giovanni Baleison, known for his works in the Niçois region, like those of the chapel Saint-Grat.
Classified as historical monuments since 20 July 1942, the chapel is distinguished by its rich iconography. The lateral walls of the altar illustrate Marian scenes (presentation at the Temple, marriage of the Virgin) and episodes of Christ's childhood (Nativity, flight to Egypt). Other frescoes, such as Saint Sebastian martyr or Saint Crepin and Crepinian, reflect local devotions and medieval artistic influences.
The chapel is located 2 km west of Lucéram, near the old road leading to Col Saint-Roch (D 2566). A communal property, it bears witness to the religious and pictorial heritage of the Alpes-Maritimes, with rare representations such as Good and Bad Prayer, emphasizing the importance of inner spirituality. Studies, such as those of Léo Imbert or Georges Trubert, have highlighted its particularities, including architectural details or maritime symbols (vesels).
