Origin and history

The Notre-Dame-de-l'Aube Chapel is a 12th-century religious building located in the commune of Entrecasteaux in the Var department. It embodies the medieval heritage of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, with an architecture typical of Provence's Romanesque chapels. Its establishment reflects the importance of places of worship in the territorial and spiritual organization of the time.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 25 March 1980, the chapel benefited from restoration work in 2008, in particular to consolidate its enclosure wall. These interventions were intended to preserve its structural integrity while respecting its historical character. The chapel remains today a material testimony of Marian devotion and medieval sacred art in Provence.

The chapel belongs to the commune of Entrecasteaux, as the data of the Merimée database attest. Its precise address, 555 B Route de Carcès, allows to locate it in a rural environment, typical of religious constructions isolated from this period. Its classification among historical monuments highlights its heritage value, both architectural and historical.
