Origin and history

The Notre-Dame-de-la-Tête-Ronde chapel of Menou was built in 1872, following a vow, in a neo-Roman architectural style. This religious monument, located in the Nièvre department, reflects the stylistic influences of the 19th century while integrating decorative elements specific to local Marian devotion. Its construction is part of a tradition of votive constructions, frequent in Burgundy-Franche-Comté after major events or epidemics.

The interior frescoes of the chapel were made in 1950 by Charles Loupot, a renowned posterist, bringing a modern artistic touch to the building. The stained glass windows, designed by Max Ingrand, complement this decoration and illustrate the evolution of artistic techniques applied to places of worship in the twentieth century. The chapel, classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 21 March 1994, now belongs to the municipality of Menou and bears witness to the rural heritage of the region.

The location of the chapel, at approximately 10 Route de Couloutre, is documented with an accuracy deemed "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10). Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rental, worship), its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments guarantees its preservation.
