Origin and history

The Notre-Dame-des-Grâces chapel of Lacapelle-Livron, listed as a Historical Monument, is a 15th century religious building located at the end of a plateau. It is distinguished by its unique dogive vaulted nave and its exterior in carefully equipped stones. This place, marked by a strong spiritual dimension, attracted pilgrims from its construction.

The chapel was erected in 1472 as a funeral chapel, at the request of Catherine de Gorsse, wife of Pierre de Pause de Lacapelle-Livron, according to the terms of his will written in 1471. Master masons Pierre Fabre and Guillaume Botet, originally from Lunac en Rouergue, were the craftsmen of this company. The vaults, damaged over the centuries, were rebuilt in the 19th century, thus preserving the integrity of the building.

A notable architectural detail is the presence of taskmen's marks, testimonies of the craftsmen who worked on the site. The chapel, owned by the commune, has been protected since its classification by decree of 30 April 1948. Its precise location, although documented, remains an approximate location according to modern criteria, with an address indicated as "5049 Notre Dame" in Lacapelle-Livron.
