Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-des-Neiges chapel, located in the hamlet of Les Casses in Réotier (Hautes-Alpes), is a small, arched square-planed building covered with a long-paned roof. It was built in the second half of the 18th century with a frame campanile and an engraved beam of 1759. The walls of the choir and the north nave house contemporary tempera paintings of the building, reflecting a sober but symbolic decor for the local community.
Consecrated on August 5, 1759, this chapel was erected by the inhabitants of the hamlet, as evidenced by the archives and the date inscribed on its structure. Its registration in the Historical Monuments by order of 20 February 1995 (protected element: cadastre F 68) underlines its heritage value. A communal property, it embodies the rural religious architecture of the Southern Alps, combining constructive simplicity and painted decorations characteristic of the eighteenth century.
The technique of a tempera paints, the apparent frame, and the wooden campanile illustrate the local know-how of the period. Although its exact location is considered "passable" (note 5/10), its administrative address (05600 Réotier) and its Insee code (05116) clearly links it to the territory of the Hautes-Alpes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary uses.
