Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-du-Château chapel, located in Allauch in the Bouches-du-Rhône, is a religious building built in the 13th century. It is also known as Notre-Dame-de-Belvézer or Beauvoir. Perched 300 metres above sea level, it survived the destruction of the nearby castle in 1595, losing its status as a parish but becoming a renowned pilgrimage site.
The interior of the chapel houses a rich collection of ex-votos, classified in the pre-inventory of the artistic riches of France. These objects, dating from the seventeenth century to the present, bear witness to popular devotion and local religious practices. The chapel was listed as historic monuments by order of 28 December 1984, thus recognizing its heritage value.
Today, the chapel is managed by an association and remains a place of visit and spirituality. Its location, at 22 Montée Notre-Dame du Château, makes it a historical and cultural landmark for the municipality of Allauch and its visitors.
