Origin and history
Saint-François-de-Paule Chapel is a Romanesque religious building located in Bormes-les-Mimosas, Var department. Dedicated to St Francis of Paul, it has been listed as historical monuments since April 11, 1963. Several objects that it houses, such as statue-liquires, paintings and a altarpiece, are also protected by heritage.
According to available sources, the chapel dates from the 16th or 17th century. It served as a parish church between 1773 and 1783, during which time it played a central role in local religious life. Today, it remains an architectural and artistic testimony of the religious history of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
The chapel belongs to the municipality of Bormes-les-Mimosas and preserves remarkable furniture, such as a painting depicting Saint Anne teaching the Virgin or a altarpiece illustrating the Apparition of the Breastfeeding Virgin to Saint Francis of Paul. These works reflect local devotion and the importance of Marian worship in this part of southeastern France.
