Origin and history
The Chapel Saint-Honorat de Châteaurenard is a religious building dating from the first half of the twelfth century. Located in Châteaurenard, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, it is representative of Provencal Romanesque architecture. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 19 December 1972 bears witness to its heritage value.
At that time, Provence was marked by a feudal organization and a rural life centred around churches and chapels, which served as places of worship, community gathering and sometimes refuge. These buildings played an essential social and spiritual role in villages, reflecting the importance of religion in everyday life.
The location of the chapel, mentioned as rue du Moulin or 12 Impasse du Moulin, suggests a possible link with local artisanal or agricultural activities, typical of medieval villages. Today, its state of conservation and its openness to the public remain partially documented, although its protected status guarantees its preservation.
