Chapelle Saint-Jean, in Saint-Rambert (cad. AM 335) : inscription by order of 2 November 1972

Origin and history

Saint John Chapel of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert is a religious building built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Located in the commune of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, in the Loire department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), it is representative of the medieval architecture of this period. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 2 November 1972 bears witness to its heritage value and its local importance.

The chapel is now owned by the municipality. Although its current use (visit, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources, its state of conservation appears satisfactory, with a geolocation deemed "a priori satisfactory". The protected elements specifically include the Saint John Chapel, located at Saint-Rambert, as indicated in the cadastre (section AM, Parcel 335).

At the time of its construction, the 11th and 12th centuries correspond to a period of development of religious buildings in Europe, often linked to the expansion of Christianity and the organization of parishes. In the region, these chapels served as places of worship for local communities, while playing a central social and cultural role. Their architecture, often sober, reflected available resources and know-how, as well as regional or monastic stylistic influences.
