The entire chapel, including the ground of the nave today destroyed, and the archaeological remains contained therein (Box ZA 74): inscription by order of 17 July 2003

Origin and history

The Chapel Saint-Justin of Chambbornay-lès-Bellevaux is a 12th-century religious building located in the Haute-Saône department, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. As early as 1140, it was mentioned as part of a larger set, including a nave now destroyed. Its architecture, rectangular, is distinguished by a cradle vault and a lava cover, characteristic of the Romanesque constructions of the region.

The chapel is the last remaining element of a larger building, whose nave, already in ruins in 1845, was subsequently destroyed. The building was listed as historical monuments in 2003, thus protecting the entire chapel, including the old nave soil and the archaeological remains it contains. Owned by the municipality, it bears witness to local religious and architectural history.

The location of the chapel, at the approximate address 5002 Planisse speaker, is considered satisfactory, with a map accuracy estimated at 8/10. Its inscription as a historic monument underlines its heritage importance, although information on its accessibility or current uses (visits, events) is not detailed in the available sources.
