Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Léger de Piacé, located in the Sarthe department in Pays de la Loire, dates from the thirteenth century. It is part of a priory founded in 1090, originally attached to Saint Vincent du Mans Abbey. Its architecture, marked by holes and decorations of great stylistic purity, did not undergo major restorations in the 19th century, thus preserving its medieval authenticity.

The chapel was classified as a Historical Monument by an order of 28 November 1988, thus protecting its integrity. Although its exact location is approximate (precision of location noted 5/10), it remains a remarkable testimony of 13th century religious art in the region. Its history is closely linked to that of the priory, a major monastic institution in the local religious and social organization.

Available sources, including Monumentum, highlight its heritage importance, but do not provide details on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.). The chapel thus embodies a medieval heritage, both architectural and spiritual, anchored in the historical landscape of Le Mans and its surroundings.
