Chapelle Saint-Maurice: inscription by order of 24 October 1927

Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Maurice d'Ille-sur-Têt is part of the former hermitage Saint-Maurice de Greulera. Although its current construction seems to date from the 17th century, a first church was already reported to this site as early as the 13th century. This place of worship, probably rebuilt in a Romanesque style, bears witness to an ancient religious occupation on this site.

The hermitage and its chapel are located in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in the Occitan region. The present building, inscribed as a historical monument, preserves architectural traces that evoke its medieval past while reflecting the 17th century transformations. The chapel is today a vestige of local religious history.

Available sources, including the Mérimée base of the Ministry of Culture, confirm its inscription in the heritage. The chapel is also referenced among the Romanesque churches of the Pyrénées-Orientales, highlighting its importance in the architectural and historical landscape of the region.
