Chapel (Box AE 174): entry by order of 23 April 1979
Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Michel-Tremblade de Jegun is a rural historic monument located in Gers, Occitanie. Probably dating back to the 17th century, it consists of a unique nave ending with a flat bedside, characteristic of local popular religious architecture. Its bell tower-wall with a single arcade and its south door, preceded by an empan gascon, reflect the constructive traditions of the region. This type of arrangement, with a low wall to the south and a wall to the west, served as a gathering place for the parish community.
The chapel was listed as a Historical Monument by order of 23 April 1979, thus protecting its building (cadastre AE 174). Owned by the municipality of Jegun, it illustrates the importance of rural places of worship in the social and religious organization of Gers. Its modest but functional architecture, with a precise location at 5444 Saint-Michel, bears witness to its anchoring in the local landscape. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), based on available data.
The typical architectural element L-emban gascon emphasizes the role of these spaces as a place of transition between the outside and the sacred interior. The southern gate, almost systematic in the churches of Gers, responded to practical uses related to climate and local habits. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its listing as Historic Monuments guarantees its preservation as a regional heritage.
