Origin and history
The chapel Sainte-Anne de Tigné is a religious building located in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the commune of Tigné, now attached to Lys-Haut-Layon. Originally dating from the 12th century, it is dedicated to Saint Anne, a major figure in the Christian tradition. This chapel bears witness to medieval architecture, with remains such as two bell tower bays and a vaulted nave in cradle, characteristic of this period. It underwent major changes in the 17th century, reflecting the stylistic evolutions and liturgical needs of the era.
The chapel was partially destroyed around 1863, but some elements, such as the north side of the 15th century and the revamped bell tower, remained. These transformations illustrate its turbulent history, marked by successive reconstructions and adaptations. In 1926, the building was listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. Today, it remains an architectural testimony of medieval and modern times, anchored in the religious landscape of Anjou.
The monument is owned by the municipality of Tigné and is part of the local religious heritage. Its inclusion in the Merimée database and its listing in the Observatory of Religious Heritage underline its cultural importance. Although its state of conservation and accessibility are not detailed, its historical and architectural role makes it a notable place in the Pays de la Loire region.
