Origin and history
The Sainte-Anne Chapel is located within the Priory Saint-Bernard, a religious building located in Ottmarsheim, in the Haut-Rhin department (Great East). Built in the middle of the 19th century with subsequent developments in the 20th century, it has been part of an architectural complex listed as historical monuments since 2015. His painted decorations, especially those made by the painter Notker Becker, are a protected part of his artistic heritage.
The priory now houses a religious community of the Servants of Jesus and Mary. The chapel of Sainte-Anne, specifically designated for its frescoes, is mentioned in the decree of inscription as a space of major heritage value. Its integration into the priory reflects the architectural and spiritual evolution of the site, marked by a double cult and community vocation.
Available sources, including the Merimée base and local references, highlight its importance in the Alsatian historical landscape. Although the details of its initial use remain partial, its recent inscription demonstrates official recognition of its artistic and historical value, particularly for its painted elements and its role in regional religious life.
