Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite, in the hamlet of the Ecot : inscription by order of 1 December 1980

Origin and history

The chapel Sainte-Marguerite de Bonneval-sur-Arc is a religious building located in the hamlet of the Ecot, in the municipality of Bonneval-sur-Arc, in Savoie. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 1 December 1980, now belongs to the commune. Its location in an alpine village at altitude reflects the importance of local places of worship in the organization of rural communities.

Mountain chapels like Sainte-Marguerite often played a central role in the spiritual and social life of isolated hamlets. They served as a gathering point for offices, employers' parties and community events. In the Alps, these buildings were also visual and symbolic landmarks for the inhabitants, marking the attachment to a territory with sometimes harsh living conditions.

The precise location of this chapel, although noted as 'passable' in the databases, remains a testimony of Savoyard religious heritage.
