Origin and history

The chapel of Saint-Suzanne de Sérent, located at the place called Treviet in Morbihan, is a religious building built in the 16th century. It is distinguished by its rectangular granite stone plan, its three-gable bedside separated by foothills, and its flamboyant bays. The stone bell tower, typical of the regional chapels of eastern Morbihan, overlooks the west gable wall. On the inside, the coated walls and the panelled frame house sandstones decorated with shields, while a lavabo niche in the middle hanger adorns the south wall near the altar.

Classified as a historical monument on June 6, 1977, the chapel also includes an open-air altar-shaped calvary, topped by a cross and columns as candlesticks. The altar table, decorated with squids, supports a niche simulating a tabernacle. Founded in the 16th century by the lords of Tromeur, the chapel also houses a Gaulish stele of the Iron Age in its enclosure. The last marriage was celebrated in 1989 because of work in the parish church of Serent.

The architecture of the chapel reflects the local characteristics: bedside with inclined gables, door and bays in broken arch or full hanger, and foothills surmounted by gargoyles. The wall paintings, protected by the 1977 classification, as well as the calvary, testify to its heritage importance. The chapel, owned by the commune, remains a remarkable example of Breton religious heritage, mixing medieval and Renaissance elements.

The site, whose location is estimated with average accuracy (6/10), is accessible via the place called Treviet. The approximate GPS coordinates (5181 Treviet, 56460 Sérent) and the Insee code of the municipality (56244) confirm its anchoring in the Morbihan, within the Brittany region. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its role in local history and distinctive architecture.
