Origin and history

The Mossant chapel, located in Bourg-de-Péage in the Drôme, is a historical monument built during the 2nd quarter of the 20th century. This industrial building, listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 6 April 2004, illustrates the functional architecture of this period. Its registration covers the entire structure, emphasizing its heritage importance and its remarkable state of conservation for a production site.

The building, designed by architect Henri Joulie, is located at 9002 avenue du Général Charles de Gaulle. Although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (level 5 out of 10), there remains a concrete evidence of the chapelial activity that has marked the region. The chapelry is now owned by a private company, but its status as a Historical Monument guarantees its preservation.

In the wider context of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the 20th century, local industries, such as the chapelry, played a major economic and social role. These craft and industrial activities structured the life of communities, providing jobs and participating in the cultural identity of cities. Bourg-de-Péage, with its industrial heritage, reflects this dynamic, where buildings dedicated to production became urban landmarks and symbols of local know-how.
