Origin and history
La Ferme du Chapter is a historic monument located in Larchant, Seine-et-Marne (Île-de-France). Its origins date back to the fourteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, as evidenced by its preserved architectural elements. This site is emblematic of the agricultural and seigneurial constructions of this period, integrating both practical and symbolic functions, such as the dovecote, often reserved for seigneurial privileges.
The facades and roofs of the barn, as well as the dovecote and well, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 11 May 1981. This protection highlights the heritage importance of the site, reflecting the evolution of agricultural techniques and rural organization in Île-de-France. The approximate location, noted as 'passable' in the databases, suggests a site anchored in the local landscape, but whose geographical accuracy could be improved.
In medieval and modern times, farms like the Chapter played a central role in the local economy, serving as a place of production, storage and sometimes residence for agricultural workers. In Île-de-France, a region marked by a strong seigneurial and ecclesiastical presence, these farms were often linked to religious or aristocratic institutions, participating in social and territorial structuring. Their architecture, combining utility and prestige, illustrates the power relations and dominant economic activities of the time.
