Origin and history

The castle of the Lande succeeds an ancient medieval castle whose only remains is a square ground surrounded by moat, preserving the bases of two towers of angle. This medieval vestige, located to the northeast and southeast, bears witness to the original location of the fortress destroyed during reconstruction. The new home, probably erected in the early eighteenth century, adopts a U-shaped plan, with a rectangular central house body flanked by two wings in return for square. This first building, typical of classical architecture, marks a break with the defensive past of the site.

In 1875, major works transformed the castle into a larger residence: the central body was doubled in depth, and two pavilions were added to the northwest and southwest ends. These changes, in a neoclassical style, reflect the fascinating tastes of the 19th century. At the same time, outbuildings are built in the old courtyard, including a partly preserved 18th century farm, an orangery, and a circular building. These developments illustrate the evolution of the castle towards a residential and agricultural function.

The site, protected since 1992, includes the castle platform, moats, and facades and roofs of the 18th century farm buildings. Among the remarkable elements are the old farm house, a dwelling building, and a small circular pavilion. The listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments highlights the heritage value of this architectural testimony, mixing medieval heritage, classicism and neoclassical influences.
