Origin and history

The castle of Maignelay-Montigny preserves the remains of a medieval fortress of the 13th and 14th centuries, including a part of the enclosure, a circular tower and a partially covered ditch. These elements, built in stoneware, limestone and brick (for 19th-century repairs), illustrate the classical military architecture of this period. They later served as a fence wall and as a base for later constructions.

The present castle consists of a central house body of Renaissance style (early 16th century), brick and stone, as well as two four-storey wings added in the 19th century. The remains of the medieval rampart (mural, tower, ditch and counterscarp) were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on 20 April 2004.

The site, located at Maignelay-Montigny in the Oise (Hautes-de-France), is located with a precision considered "very satisfactory" (note 8/10). Its exact address, 19 T Place du Général de Gaulle, corresponds to a central location in the commune, where the remains integrate both private and public spaces (like part of the grassy square belonging to the communal domain).
