Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame, located in Burcy (now part of the municipality of Valdallière), is a 14th-century Catholic religious building. Ranked a historic monument since June 2, 1921, it illustrates the Norman architectural heritage of this period. His term, dedicated to Notre-Dame, reflects medieval Marian traditions.

The building houses in its attic a colony of large murals (Myotis myotis), a protected species, which led to its registration as a Community Import Site (CIS) within the framework of the Natura 2000 network. This ecological characteristic is in addition to its historic and architectural heritage value.

Available sources, including the Monumental Statistique du Calvados d'Arcisse de Caumont (1857), confirm its local importance. The church administratively depends on the Calvados department (region Normandy) and is owned by the commune. Its exact address, 1 Route from Tesson to Burcy (14410 Valdallière), is referenced in the Merimée database under Insee 14726.
